The incomparable Martha Argerich recently played a concert wit the Lucerne Festival Orchestra at the Paris Philharmonie. The concert was held in honor of the late Italian conductor, Claudio Abbado.

The programme in Abbado’s honour includes Mahler’s Fifth, and Prokoviev’s Third Piano Concerto, performed by star pianist Martha Argerich, someone very dear to Abbado himself.

Argerich recalls their first meeting, saying: “He too had joined (Austrian pianist and composer) Friedrich Gulda’s classes, that’s how we met. At the time, he played the piano beautifully, and at Gulda’s place in Salzburg, he was asked to perform at the end of the course as he was one of the best.
