David Deveau has recorded a new CD based on a rare transcription of a Wagner non-operatic pieces. Deveau has explained how he got the score:
…for my birthday a couple of years ago, my family presented me with this incredible gift: a score of the arrangement of one of Wagner’s very few non-operatic pieces, the “Siegfried Idyll,” in an arrangement for piano by one of the composer’s musical disciples, Joseph Rubinstein.
I read through it and was so taken with its beauty as a piano piece that I thought immediately to record it as the centerpiece of my new CD. So, with that as the ‘rarity,’ I then chose works by Liszt that relate to Wagner either indirectly or directly.
Deveau’s recording can be found under the Steinway & Sons label.
